ROBINS SCORE FIRST POINTS IN CONVINCING FASHION
Uckfield 0-4 Hassocks

Hassocks got their season up and running with a convincing 4-0 victory over league newcomers Uckfield at the Victoria Pleasure Ground in sweltering heat. The young Robins put behind them the disapointment of their opening day defeat against Southwick with a convincing first half performance that just proved too much for the young Uckfield side. The visitors set out their intentions early on, with Lawrence Robinson striking the bar with a fine volley after good link up play with strike partner Matt Amos. It was Robinson who opened the Hassocks scoring with a well worked goal, and he soon added a second as Hassocks dominated the game in the final third. Despite missing captain Mike Goulden again through injury, the visitors were dominating the game as they ran the midfield, and it wasn't long before Matt Amos made it 3-0 to open his account for the season. It could of been more, as both Robinson and Amos managed to fire the ball over the bar from close range, and Logan Newington found his one-on-one chance well dealt with by the keeper. The Uckfield stopper pulled off another superb save to deny Amos from close range, but there was nothing he could do as Robinson wrapped up his hat-trick before half time to send the Robins into the break with a 4-0 lead. A tactical switch from the Uckfield management saw them change to 5 across the back, and it had the desired effect as Hassocks were unable to break down the home side in the second half. With the sweltering heat taking its toll, Hassocks made a number of changes, that eventually ended with Sam Franks pushing into midfield, and he nearly had the opportunity to open his Hassocks goal scoring account, but unfortunately he managed to tread on the ball instead of getting a shot away. An important result to get the season up and running for the Robins, especially ahead of a stern test ahead with the trip to Lewes next Sunday in the County Cup
