ROBINS
ROMP TO EASY WIN Hassocks
4-0 Sidley United
Hassocks
will not have too many easy afternoon’s in County
League Division 1, but this one was and the scoreline
more than reflected the dominant performance, as the
Robins moved into 3rd place in the table.
They
were on there game from the start and created good
shooting opportunities for the lively Matt Amos, Phil
Gault and Anthony Hibbert within the first 10 minutes.
Sidley rarely crossed the half way line in the first
quarter of an hour and it was no surprise when the
Robins took the lead in the 24th minute.
Mickey Turner found space down the right, he found
Gault, who in turn laid the ball off for Hibbert and
when his shot was bizarrely kicked back to him by
keeper Jon Saunders, he smashed home from close range.
Amos then headed straight at Saunders and when the
young striker was hauled down by Sidley skipper Owen
Ball when clean through, referee Erguven had no choice
but the issue Ball with a straight red card. Although
the infringement took place inside the box, a free
kick, which was squandered, was awarded 2 yards
outside the box to leave Dave John bemused as he went
for his half time chat.
Just
as he had done at Crawley Down, Amos added a 2nd
for Hassocks in the 46th minute, coolly
shooting past Saunders from an acute angle, after
great work from the industrious Spencer Slaughter.
Gault hit the side netting with a shot and Saunders
saved well from Amos before Joel Harding made his only
saves of the afternoon, a fine double stop from an
Adam Day free kick. Messrs Lear, Marsh and Faith at
the back had a comfy afternoon for Hassocks, who added
a 3rd in the 74th minute, Matt
Robbins firing home from 10 yards after efforts from
both Gault and Amos had been scrambled away. Robbins
then had another effort cleared off the line and the
Hassocks midfielder then sent Gault clear to round off
the scoring in the 83rd minute. Substitute
Laurence Robinson had a chanced to net with only
Saunders to beat but dragged his shot wide but this
was a satisfactory and comfortable win for Hassocks,
who will no doubt face many, many sterner tests in the
months ahead.
